Case study

Project: Large Recycling Plant

Client: Wotmix

Location: Liverpool

Value: £130k

Contract Period: 7 weeks

Project Overview

This project was a large scale industrial recycling plant. The existing system used to manage surface water wasn’t sufficient and therefore a lot of the yard and road was under water, washing into industrial units.

Our job was to section off a busy working area which then facilitated continued business for the client and enable Stringfellows to cut and peck out the existing concrete road. Excavate and install a new drainage and attenuation system. Whilst working, the volume of surface water required
continuous management.

Scope of work

Our clients primary concern was completing the work within a timely manner to ensure minimum disruption to the 24 recycling operation.

In order to ensure this, we worked from both ends of the project simultaneously with an excavator and pecker at each end. All excavated concrete was processed through a crusher and re used within the backfill. Due to the deep existing invert levels on site, excavations were up to 2.8 meters deep, therefore trench boxes were used.

To manage the constant large volume of surface water whilst working, there were 2-3 suction tankers on site each day to export the volume of water away from site until part of the new system was installed.

New manholes, some with flow control valves were used to assist with a part of the attenuation along with 300m diameter pipe runs.

A number of industrial road gulleys were installed throughout to support the volume of surface water within the yard and road way and a 950 meters cubed attenuation system was installed using a plastic crate system, along with welded fabric.

Re instatement was completed in stages to support business efficiency and a speedy handover of the completed areas.
